Just reflecting on the tragic death of Robin Williams…. I believe that people are put on this earth to connect, impact and influence us all. You don’t have to be famous to make a difference in someone’s life. The fact that such a beloved and talented person reached such depths of despair to take his own life is both unfathomable and shocking to us. Trying to understand that someone with fame, wealth and so many privileged opportunities for support could still see no way out stops us in our tracks. How is this possible?
The fact is that depression knows no demographic, respects no individual and shows no mercy in its influence. I am so much more aware of the terrible toll that this disease can ravage because of him. His sad end has become a beacon shining on the horrors of this disease that is finally being seen around the world. I, for one, am now poignantly aware that this is a disease that affects so many people and can reduce their existence to one of perpetual emptiness. Robin Williams will live on with his incredible body of work and the outcry of public affection for him. However, possibly he has delivered the most relevant message in his entire career. Depression is real ,,, it’s not just a bad day. Respect that in others … and be there when they need you,
